Projects

Jackson Square, Bishops Stortford

Randall Contracting were engaged by Faithdean plc to assist in the redevelopment and extension of the Jackson Square shopping centre in Bishops Stortford.

The proposed scheme involved the addition of another storey to the original two level structure. Part of our scope of works was to remove the existing concrete roof structure and reconstruct over a 1000m2 of floor slab to suit new usage loadings for H&M, the new incoming retail tenant. Due to restrictive loading on the original roof, the slab was broken out using our Brokk robotic breaker and excavator. The new slab was constructed using profiled metal decking with concrete being placed using a concrete pump.

In addition to the demolition and concrete works, we also constructed over 2500m2 of blockwork walls to the perimeter of the new addition together with forming internal partitions to suit the new store layout.

Major structural alterations to existing walls and floors were also carried out to suit the new store layout and lift installation, requiring the design and installation of temporary works to support the existing structures during the course of these works. In the basement, we also installed new underground drainage and a lift pit on piled foundations.

All these works were carried out successfully to a very tight timescale in logistically demanding circumstances.
