Airbus

Randall Contracting were engaged in the first phase of major redevelopment scheme for Airbus in Stevenage, a £1.2 million Enabling contract to prepare the way for the construction of a new central office building and future expansion. The works comprised of the demolition of existing buildings together with major service upgrades and diversions. Service diversions included a new UKPN main, HV and LV diversions together with gas and water mains and IT cabling.

The Airbus Aerospace and Defence facility at Stevenage carries out vital research and construction of aerospace components, including satellites for  commercial and defence purposes and even the manufacture of the latest Mars Rover. The site is therefore very sensitive from a security perspective and site staff required security clearance with strict security measures put in place and rigidly adhered to.

The nature of the works carried out at the facility also demands constant and uninterrupted supplies from all utility suppliers. Maintaining supplies at all times was of paramount importance, any unscheduled down time could have proven catastrophic, not only in financial terms but also in scheduling supplies of equipment globally, including international space programmes. Switchover over of services was meticulously planned and coordinated with the Airbus site facilities team and carried out with precision timing.
